Most Dangerous Countries to Surf the Web

Riskiest Places to Surf the Web

Turkey, Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are the top four most dangerous countries for Web surfing, according to a Global Threat Index study by security software company AVG.
The study detailed the number of incidences in which AVGsecurity software had to intervene over the course of one week in July, 2010 to prevent an online attack.
In Turkey, which leads the perilous pack, 1 in 10 Internet users were at risk; the risk for Russia is 1 in 15; one in 24 in Armenia; and 1 in 39 for Azerbaijan. Rounding out the list are Bangladesh, Laos, Vietnam, Portugal, USA (1 in 48), Ukraine, and Pakistan.
The whole world isn’t at risk, however. The Global Threat Index found that Sierra Leone (1 in 696) leads the world in safest surfing. By continent, South America, with an average of 1 in 164 users facing attack, is the safest continent to be online. Africa came in a close second, with four of its countries making the top 5 list of safest places to browse. AVG noted that many African countries placed high on the list because of the low level of Internet access in each country.
